Certificate IV in Community Services

The Certificate IV in Community Services (CHC42021) at TasTAFE helps students make a real difference in people's lives by building the skills and confidence to work across diverse community services. It prepares people for entry-level and support roles across the sector, blending practical support skills with knowledge of systems, compliance and working with people, and equips students to deliver person-centred services through direct support, advocacy, or designing and leading interventions for individuals, groups and communities. Students learn to build effective and respectful relationships with clients, families, colleagues and external agencies; use trauma-informed, culturally safe and person-centred approaches; assess individual needs and refer clients to appropriate services; advocate for individuals or groups to access their rights and entitlements; assist with community-based programs; work respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds; promote inclusion and equity in service delivery; and work as part of a multidisciplinary team, whether autonomously under broad guidance or supervising and leading others.

Domestically the course runs at Alanvale, Burnie, Devonport and Clarence, full-time or part-time, with tuition of $2,945 subsidised, $410 concession or $11,745 commercial, and Fee Free TAFE places available subject to eligibility. International students study for 52 weeks in Hobart or Launceston at 20 hours per week with a February intake, at AUD $10,500. TasTAFE also offers a Certificate IV to Diploma pathway: graduates can enrol directly into the Diploma of Community Services and receive credit for approximately 50% of the Diploma units, completing it in 12 months rather than the usual two years.
