Common Questions
Training under the NSW Government Smart and Skilled Program is fee-free and fully funded by the NSW Government. You may be eligible if you are unemployed (whether receiving welfare or not), at risk of losing your job, aged 16–24 years (including school leavers), in receipt of any welfare payment, a veteran or their partner, or employed in aged care, childcare, disability care or digital skill industries. To check eligibility, visit www.smartandskilled.nsw.gov.au or call 1300 77 21 04.
The course is delivered 2 nights per week online via a virtual classroom environment using Zoom, over 9 months. Students are also required to complete some self-directed learning tasks, attend some face-to-face practical training sessions, and complete 120 hours of mandatory work placement.
Before commencing work placement, students are required to provide a Working with Children Check and a Police Clearance Check, have a reasonable level of fitness to cope with standing, lifting, bending, twisting and reaching, be physically, mentally and emotionally healthy, and complete the NDIS Online Module. BCC Institute also highly recommends completing the immunisation process before practical placements commence, as some facilities will not provide placement to students without immunisation.
On completion of CHC43121 Certificate IV in Disability Support, students may wish to continue their studies and complete the CHC52015 Diploma of Community Services at BCC Institute. Other options include the CHC53315 Diploma of Mental Health or CHC53415 Diploma of Leisure and Health at a government-registered training provider.
The course consists of 14 units in total — 11 core units and 3 electives. The elective units are CHCDIS002 Follow established person-centred behaviour support, CHCDIS007 Facilitate the empowerment of people with disability, and CHCDIS009 Facilitate ongoing skills development using a person-centred approach.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
