To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 120 hours of work placement as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of the units of competency. Practical training and assessment may be offered in a range of approved and accredited care facilities in Melbourne.

Assessment methods may include written questions, case studies, role plays, projects, presentations, and workplace projects.
International students are required to demonstrate English proficiency with an IELTS score of 6.0, a PTE score of 52, or an equivalent qualification.
10 units are required for the award of this qualification, which includes 7 Core units and 3 Elective units. The course is at AQF Level 4 and runs for 65 weeks full time, including scheduled breaks.
