Domestic students must possess sound written and oral English skills, as training and assessments are conducted in English. They are required to complete a Pre-training and Language Literacy and Numeracy Assessment, must have digital literacy skills, and need access to a computer and internet. A current Police Check and Working with Children Check are also required before commencing practical placements. Additionally, applicants must have completed a Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability) or Certificate III in Disability (plus the CHCSS00125 Skill Set).
The course duration is 52 weeks for both domestic and international students. Please note that duration in weeks may vary depending upon the amount of contact days per week, and may also vary depending on the cohort and industry requirements.
The course is delivered via blended delivery, which includes face-to-face training and Virtual Classroom sessions via Zoom. International students are required to attend classes run over 2.5 days for a minimum of 20 hours per week.
Graduates may progress to qualifications such as CHC43315 Certificate IV in Mental Health, CHC43415 Certificate IV in Leisure and Health, CHC43515 Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work, or upskill with a Diploma of Mental Health, Diploma of Community Services, or Diploma of Leisure and Health. Common job roles include Disability Support Officer/Worker, Residential Care Officer, Lifestyle Support Officer, Behavioural Support Officer, Senior Personal Care Assistant, and Local Area Co-ordinator, among others.
Yes, you can apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), academic credit transfer, and work experience towards this qualification. Evidence of skills and knowledge accumulated through work, volunteer roles, family commitments, and everyday life tasks can be used to help you gain the qualification. ETEA offers both an RPL pathway and a Training and Assessment pathway.
