About This Course

Working in Disabilities is never boring. Working in care challenges you every day emotionally, physically and mentally. At times you may wonder if you are getting anywhere and then you get a smile, a pat on the back, or someone is able to do something they couldn't do the day before. You can make a difference to someone's day and someone's life. This nationally recognised qualification reflects the role of individuals in a range of community settings and peoples' homes, who provide support in a manner that empowers people with disabilities to achieve greater levels of independence, self-reliance, community participation and wellbeing. Workers promote a person-centred approach, work according to and may contribute to an individualised plan, and work without direct supervision. They may be required to supervise and/or coordinate a small team.

Eligibility

Entry Requirements

General Requirements

Completion of CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support, or CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support
Current National Police Check (arranged through SGSCC)
Complete an SGSCC English language, literacy and numeracy assessment to determine that the student has sufficient skills to successfully complete the course (ACSF Level 4)
Access to computer/internet for access to online Learning Management System, aNewSpring
Attend work placement and be workplace assessed (minimum 120 hours)
Unique Student Identifier (can be arranged through SGSCC)
Minimum 18 years of age
Before commencing work placement you will be required to obtain a current national criminal record check and a Working with Children Check to allow you to work in a care service facility

Do I need any prior qualifications to enrol in this course?

Yes, students must have a current CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support or CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support to enrol in this course.

How many work placement hours are required, and how does SGSCC support students with placement?

You need to complete 120 hours (15 days) in a care service facility. SGSCC also offers a simulated learning environment, and before commencing work placement you will be required to obtain a current national criminal record check and a Working with Children Check — SGSCC will assist you with this application process.

Are there any exams for this course?

No, this is a competency-based course. You will be required to competently complete assessment tasks for all 10 units of learning, which are made up of case study, question and answer, project, role play, and practical skill demonstration in a nursing lab.

What are the fees for this course?

This qualification is subsidised by the NSW Government. You can register to check your Smart & Skilled eligibility and student fee contribution.

What further study pathways are available after completing this qualification?

When you have completed and been deemed competent, you can progress with SGSCC to the CHC52021 Diploma of Community Services or CHC62015 Advanced Diploma of Community Sector Management.
