Common Questions
Students are required to complete 120 hours of industry placement as part of the course. Educare College organises placement in an aged care facility on students' behalf. Placement takes place after the successful completion of classroom activities and prescribed assessments. An individualised work placement log book along with a training plan will be provided to record and track course progress and work placement hours. Shifts can vary and may include mornings (commencing at 6am), evenings (finishing at 11pm) and possibly some night shifts between Monday and Sunday.
The domestic fee for service is $4,833 and the international (student visa) fee is $6,600 for the 32-week course. Additional fees include an Enrolment Fee of $250 and a Material Fee of $500.
The course is available in multiple study modes including Blended learning (Part On-Campus & Online), eLearning + Placement, Entirely On-Campus, and Workplace Delivery. At the Brisbane Centre Campus, supervised training sessions are held Monday 9:00am–1:00pm, Tuesday 9:00am–5:00pm, and Wednesday 9:00am–5:00pm. At the Gold Coast Centre 2 Campus, sessions are held Monday 9:00am–5:00pm, Wednesday 9:00am–5:00pm, and Friday 9:00am–1:00pm. There are 19 contact hours per week.
Yes. Prior to commencement of Vocational Placement, students are required to organise and complete an Australian Federal Police Check. Students must obtain the Check to go on placement and be able to complete the qualification. For students working within Queensland Health, a Positive Notice for Child Related Employment (Blue Card) and Hepatitis A & B immunisation are also required before commencing Clinical Placements. It is recommended that potential students begin Hepatitis vaccinations as soon as possible to ensure timely completion. Students should also be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 prior to undertaking placement.
The course covers Person-Centered Care, Communication and Interpersonal Skills, Teamwork and Collaboration, Personal Care Assistance, Health and Well-being Support, Cultural Awareness and Sensitivity, Safety and Risk Management, Documentation and Reporting, and Ethical and Legal Considerations. The course includes both core units and elective units covering areas such as aged care, dementia support, palliative care, and disability support.
