Common Questions
The Certificate IV in Engineering (MEM40119) is delivered full time over 100 weeks, which includes 89 weeks of class delivery and 11 weeks of holidays. Students attend 20 hours of face-to-face/online training and assessment per week, typically divided into two full days and one half-day of classes.
The course is delivered at two campus locations: Level 1, 150-154 A'Beckett Street, Melbourne, VIC 3000, and Unit 4, 149 Anderson Road, Sunshine, VIC 3020. Classes are held between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday to Sunday.
This qualification may be accessed by direct entry with no formal qualification entry requirement. However, it is assumed that the learner is either already a tradesperson with access to structured on and off-the-job training or is an apprentice under an Australian Apprenticeship arrangement. All applicants must complete a Pre-Training Review (Determining Suitability Review) and a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) test. Students must score within the required LLN range to be admitted, and any medical conditions must be disclosed at enrolment.
Graduates of the Certificate IV in Engineering may pursue roles such as Engineering/Manufacturing Tradesperson – Special Class Level II, Fitter and Turner, Fitter and Machinist, Boilermaker, Welder, and Sheet Metal Worker. For further study, the qualification provides a pathway into the MEM50119 – Diploma of Engineering – Advanced Trade (Release 2).
Assessment is competency-based and occurs throughout the program. It may include theory, projects, and practical assessments. Participants are advised of assessment requirements at the beginning of each unit. Formative assessment is provided throughout the course via a range of activities, while summative assessment concludes each unit of competency. Assessment is based on realistic workplace scenarios and simulations, as students may not be in suitable employment or may be working in workplaces that do not allow application of the required competency. Students may also apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or Credit Transfer through the enrolment process.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
