Certificate IV in Engineering Drafting

The Certificate IV in Engineering Drafting (MEM40422) at TasTAFE gives students the skills to produce specialist engineering drawings within an engineering design environment, providing a solid understanding of technical and design systems as they relate to engineering along with the administrative processes needed to achieve successful project outcomes. Students learn to organise and communicate information, develop extensive skills in 2D and 3D CAD, and apply mathematical techniques in a manufacturing engineering or related environment. They also gain hands-on, practical experience in technical, structural and design drafting, and learn to measure and sketch site information and report technical information. Elective units cover using CAD software for building design projects, interpreting technical engineering drawings, detailing structural steel members and mechanical componentry, creating 3D solid models and assemblies, investigating construction methods for Class 1 and 10 buildings, performing engineering measurements and computations, selecting common engineering materials, and working safely in manufacturing and engineering.

The units in this course have been selected in consultation with industry to reflect their needs and ensure graduates have the skills employers are looking for, enabling students to adapt to varying engineering environments and participate in sustainable work practices. Domestically the course is delivered online and at the Clarence campus, full-time or part-time, with tuition of $2,315 subsidised, $410 concession or $11,975 commercial plus a $100 textbook. International students study for 52 weeks in Hobart at 20 hours per week with a February intake, at AUD $14,495. Graduates are prepared for employment as an Engineering Draftsperson in private or public practice, and may progress to the RII50520 Diploma of Civil Construction Design.
