Common Questions
The course fee for international students ranges from $20,400 to $21,420 AUD. Additionally, there are extra costs for uniforms, equipment, textbooks and materials which range from $300 to $1,000 AUD per course.
The Certificate III in Commercial Cookery has a duration of 1 year for international students.
You will study 20 core units and 5 elective units (10 additional units total as packaged by TAFE NSW). Core units cover areas such as preparing poultry, meat, seafood, vegetarian and vegan dishes, producing cakes and desserts, food safety, stock management, and safe work practices. Elective units include topics such as preparing specialised food items, providing first aid, and showing social and cultural sensitivity.
After completing the Certificate III in Commercial Cookery, you can continue your studies with a Certificate IV in Kitchen Management or Certificate IV in Patisserie. At TAFE NSW Wollongong, you can also apply for a package combining Certificate III in Commercial Cookery (1 year) and Diploma of Hospitality Management (1 year) for a total package duration of 2 years. TAFE NSW also has partnerships with a number of Australian universities that offer guaranteed entry and credit transfer to eligible students.
You will build practical experience in creating a range of culinary dishes inspired by local and international cuisine, planning and developing recipes, using different cookery methods and techniques to highlight specific ingredients, cooking dishes according to dietary requirements, working with other team members to produce food, and applying safe work, hygienic and sustainable practices. You will also cook for real customers during service periods.
