Common Questions
Students learn hospitality skills in a practical, hands-on way, gaining essential experience in hospitality supervision. You'll receive training in Melbourne Polytechnic's specialist barista and bar operations academy, and have the opportunity to develop hospitality service skills within the award-winning commercial restaurant, St Georges. You will also have the opportunity to be involved in major events, functions, celebrity chef dinners and much more.
All Hospitality training is conducted between Monday to Saturday from 8.30am to 9.30pm. The nature of the industry requires students to participate in service periods that are reflective of the job outcomes and will include lunch and dinner service periods within student-led cafes and restaurants.
Tuition fees vary depending on eligibility: the concession fee is $1,420, the government subsidised fee is $7,100, and the non-subsidised fee is $12,800. The maximum annual amenities fee is $180 (concession) or $260 (government subsidised and full fee). A materials fee of $150 also applies. This training is delivered with Victorian and Commonwealth Government funding — contact Melbourne Polytechnic to find out if you're eligible for a government subsidy.
Graduates will be qualified to work as a food attendant, bar service attendant, food and beverage supervisor, or a maître de. You'll also be ready for roles such as restaurant supervisor, bar supervisor, or cocktail bar attendant, in both operational and supervisory positions.
The course is available with intakes in February and July each year. The duration is 12 months full time, and it is also available part time. The course is delivered at the Preston Campus.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
