Certificate IV in Information Technology

The Certificate IV in Information Technology (ICT40120) at Academies Australasia Polytechnic is the entry point into AAPoly's nationally accredited IT pathway, designed for anyone who needs specialist skills and knowledge to administer and manage information and communications technology (ICT) support in small-to-medium enterprises. The course builds practical, job-ready capability across a wide range of general ICT technologies rather than specialising too early. Across three terms students work through emerging technologies and practices, ICT ethics and privacy, introductory programming and object-oriented language skills, desktop and script configuration, server virtualisation, web development, cyber security incident response, and database design and integration. Business-facing units teach students how to determine and confirm client business requirements and how to identify and resolve client ICT problems, so graduates can talk to users as well as work on systems. Study is delivered on campus in classroom mode and covers 18 units of competency grouped into 12 subject areas. Graduates of the qualification are eligible for student membership of the Australian Computer Society (ACS), the professional association for ICT practitioners in Australia. The Certificate IV is also the preferred entry pathway into the Diploma of Information Technology (ICT50220), with AAPoly recommending students complete each lower-level qualification before commencing the next.
