Certificate IV in Information Technology

The Certificate IV in Information Technology (ICT40120) at TasTAFE is for people who want to make the most of their critical thinking and problem-solving skills and take the next step in their ICT career. This is not an entry-level course — it is highly recommended that applicants already possess high-level computer skills such as networking, programming and web design experience, which can be gained by completing the Certificate III in Information Technology. The Networking-focused qualification provides the skills and knowledge to become competent in a wide range of technologies, including installing and administering simple networks, servers and client desktop systems, either as an independent ICT specialist or as part of a team, with students learning in a blended classroom and online environment using real systems used in industry. The course develops transferable skills across four areas — Networking, Cyber Security, Programming and Web Development, and Technical Support — covering advanced critical thinking, cyber security risk management, emerging technologies, IP, ethics and privacy policies, and resolving client ICT problems.

Domestically the course is delivered at Alanvale and Campbell Street, full-time or part-time, on-site or through mixed learning, and is available to apprentices and trainees, with tuition of $2,465 subsidised, $410 concession or $15,120 commercial. International students study for 26 weeks in Hobart at 20 hours per week with February and July intakes, at AUD $8,645. Graduates are equipped to apply for in-demand IT roles including ICT Technician, Technical Support Officer, Network Administrator and Network Support Officer, and are prepared for further study at Diploma level or above.
