This qualification is expected to be completed in 78 weeks, which includes 60 weeks of face to face training and assessment spread over 6 terms of 10 weeks each, and 18 weeks (in total) of term breaks. Students will also need to complete work placement as part of their course — an additional 192 hours to be completed concurrently in terms 3 and 4, and 48 hours to be completed concurrently in term 6.
The tuition fee is $12,500 AUD, with a non-refundable application fee of $250 AUD and a material fee of $1,000 AUD. Payments are split across study periods: Study period 1 (deposit prior to CoE) includes $2,250 tuition + $250 application fee + $1,000 material fee; Study periods 2–5 are each $2,250 in tuition fees; Study period 6 is $1,250 in tuition fees. Note that deposit for the course may vary — please refer to the Letter of Offer.
Yes, Mercury Institute of Victoria will ensure placement of all students. This is to ensure international students with limited exposure to the Australian workplace are not disadvantaged. Students will also have the option to arrange their own work placement provided it meets all requirements. The assessor will visit and assess the student at least twice during this time at a mutually convenient time.
Applicants must demonstrate an English language proficiency level of either an IELTS band score of 5.5 or equivalent, or an IELTS band score of 5.0 combined with the successful completion of an ELICOS course of a minimum of 10 weeks.
Graduates can pathway into the SIT50422 Diploma of Hospitality Management. In terms of employment, possible career outcomes include working as a commercial cook in organisations such as restaurants, hotels, clubs, pubs, cafés, and coffee shops; becoming a small business owner in these sectors; or pursuing roles such as Chef and Chef de Partie.
