The program runs for a total of 83 calendar weeks, comprising 65 academic weeks of study and 18 weeks of term breaks (structured as 6×3 week breaks). It delivers over 20 hours of full-time study per week, with 1,300 allocated face-to-face hours in total.
Yes. In order to successfully complete the course and to be awarded with the Qualification, students must complete a period of work placement to demonstrate their ability to perform to the required standard in the workplace. Work placement for this course includes a minimum of 300 hours.
All international students must be able to demonstrate an IELTS 6.0 level of English language or equivalent, and must have completed their education to a level equivalent to an Australian Senior High School, College or University Course.
Possible job titles relevant to this qualification include Chef, Chef de Partie, Production Chef, and Cook. Graduates can work in organisations such as restaurants, hotels, clubs, pubs, cafes and coffee shops, or run a small business in these sectors.
After achieving the SIT40521 Certificate IV in Kitchen Management, students may undertake further study to SIT50422 Diploma of Hospitality Management or other Diploma Level Courses.
