The course is delivered in a blended mode, combining 13.5 hours of face-to-face classroom and practical training in a commercial kitchen setting with 6.5 hours of online activities per week, plus 192 hours of work placement in total.
The Tuition Fee is A$19,500 and the Non-Tuition Fee is A$1,750. Course fees do not include computer software or textbooks, which must be purchased at the student's own cost. A detailed payment plan and payment arrangements are provided in the letter of offer and written agreement.
Students are required to complete 192 hours of work placement in total, covering 48 service periods for the unit SITHCCC043 Work Effectively as a Cook. The work placement takes place in Term 6 and covers Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and Function Services. TKL will assist with the work placement arrangement, however students are encouraged to find their own placement, which requires approval from the work placement coordinator at TKL College.
Students who completed this course may wish to further their studies and enrol in the SIT50422 Diploma of Hospitality Management or higher. Students who have completed SIT40521 Certificate IV in Kitchen Management from TKL College may have 16 units credited towards SIT50422, with the Diploma delivered over 26 weeks.
Assessment will occur through a variety of methods, including projects, role-plays, kitchen practical assessments, observations, logbooks, case studies, and short answer questions. For international students, satisfactory course progress is required in order to meet visa requirements.
