You'll advance your skills in drawing, illustration, printmaking, painting, design and digital imaging and photography. The course also includes units in art history and professional practice, supported by instruction from experienced, working artists with specialist knowledge.
Students will build a folio of work based on projects and class exercises and be assessed on completed projects and final folio submissions.
Tuition fees vary depending on eligibility: the concession fee is $960, the government subsidised fee is $4,800, and the non-subsidised fee is $12,350. A maximum annual amenities fee also applies ($180 for concession students, $260 for others). This training is delivered with Victorian and Commonwealth Government funding — contact Melbourne Polytechnic to find out if you're eligible for a government subsidy.
Graduates may enter the art sector into a range of visual arts, craft, and design roles such as Community Arts Project Facilitator, Studio Assistant, Gallery Assistant, and Community Arts Project Supervisor. Graduates may also articulate into the Diploma of Visual Arts CUA51120, specialising in either Illustration or Painting/Printmaking.
The Visual Arts program offers fully-equipped specialist studios, computer labs and dedicated classrooms for each artistic technique. Students will have the opportunity to exhibit their work in on-campus art galleries and will be involved in exhibitions, industry forums and workshops with professionals from across the arts industry. Melbourne Polytechnic also maintains industry partnerships including curators, gallery directors and arts business professionals.
