Common Questions
UNSW operates on an HDR Academic Calendar with four terms per year. For 2026, the term start dates are: Summer Term on 15 December 2025, Term 1 on 16 February 2026, Term 2 on 1 June 2026, and Term 3 on 14 September 2026. New candidates are expected to enrol by the Term Start Date, though early enrolment up to one month before the start date is permitted.
All applicants, whether domestic or international, must provide evidence that their English language ability meets the minimum UNSW English Language Requirements. This can be demonstrated through English Language Tests and University English Courses (with UNSW granted permission to verify results), prior study in the medium of English, or other approved qualifications.
Applications are submitted via UNSW Apply Online. You must prepare supporting documentation as outlined in the Document Submission Guidelines, including academic transcripts, proof of English language proficiency, and (for international applicants) a completed Financial Declaration Form. Documents in a language other than English must be translated by a NAATI-accredited translator. Only full applications with all required documents will proceed to the next stage.
Yes, HDR applicants can request to defer for up to one year after the initial offer term. UNSW HDR Scholarship offers may be deferred on a case-by-case basis. Deferrals are only approved where conditions are met, including continuing to meet UNSW entry requirements and availability of supervision and resources. If you have a conditional offer, email the relevant admissions team; if you have an unconditional offer, log in to Accept Online.
UNSW offers scholarship rounds for both domestic and international applicants. International applicants can apply for UNSW Research Scholarships, alternative external scholarships, or self-fund their studies. Domestic applicants applying for a scholarship stipend must submit applications by specific deadlines aligned to each term. Scholarship applicants must also demonstrate they meet English language requirements before the scholarship deadline. Details on scholarship deadlines and conditions are available on the UNSW Graduate Research School website.

Honestly I was lost when I first started looking at Australian colleges. There are just too many options and every agent gives you different info. A friend told me about FindTheCourses and within a week I had shortlisted 3 programs that actually matched my budget and visa situation. My advisor Sanjay was super helpful — never felt like I was being pushed into anything.
