About This Course

The Diploma in Human Services is a professional human services course that ensures you are challenged by comprehensive up to date knowledge and experience discipline-specific, practical and applied training. In this course you will develop critical thinking skills, knowledge of theoretical frameworks and practical skills that will provide a basis for employment opportunities in the community services sector. You will practice applying your knowledge through case studies, group work, essays, the completion of practical exercises, professional placements and research activities. It is an eight unit course that transforms students into 'work-ready' graduates over a two trimester, full time load.

General Requirements

Applicants in any category whose study, work or life experiences have been impacted by disability, illness or family disruption will be given special consideration for admission. English Language proficiency requirements are applicable to international students and in addition to academic or special entry requirements.
Regardless of your nominated entry pathway, you are required to support your application by demonstrating your capacity to meet the academic, ethical and participation demands of your program of choice at interview or, where requested by Admissions staff, through a written statement of purpose (SoP).

How long does the Diploma in Human Services take to complete?

The Diploma in Human Services takes up to 52 weeks to complete. By standard study mode (2 trimesters per academic year), it is 1 year full time equivalent, delivered over two trimesters.

What are the Work Integrated Learning (placement) requirements for this course?

WIL placements are a compulsory component of the course. Students must complete PRAC 100: Professional Practice Placement Introductory, which involves up to 120 hours at 16 hours per week. Placements are offered in trimester 2 and must be completed within one teaching period. Students must also undergo screening checks for child-related employment, disability services employment, aged care sector employment, vulnerable person employment and general employment probity prior to commencing placement.

What are the tuition fees for domestic and international students?

Domestic students pay a tuition fee of $23,280 plus an Amenities Fee of $370. International students pay a tuition fee of $27,936 plus a Student Services Fee of $370. Scholarships are also available — students are encouraged to enquire.

What further study pathways are available after completing this diploma?

The Diploma in Human Services is a pathway into the Associate Degree in Human Services and the Bachelor of Human Services. On completion of this course, you will receive a 12 month credit to the EQUALS Bachelor of Human Services course.
