Diploma of Apparel, Fashion and Textiles

TAFE Queensland's Diploma of Apparel, Fashion and Textiles is delivered from the purpose-built Fashion Centre of Excellence, a dedicated facility with rooms for pattern making, millinery, sewing, stretch wear and screen printing, all fitted out with industry-standard machinery and equipment. The course equips aspiring designers with the advanced technical skills, industry knowledge and creative flair needed to thrive in the fashion industry, covering design principles, trend forecasting, textile selection, patternmaking and garment production, alongside commercial skills such as marketing and retail operations. According to the Australian Government's Job Outlook service, the number of people working as fashion, industrial and jewellery designers is expected to grow strongly, with more than 3,000 job openings projected over the next five years. Graduates are prepared for roles such as Assistant Designer, Assistant Product Developer, Patternmaker and Production Supervisor, and TAFE Queensland alumni have gone on to create or work for labels including LSKD, Billabong, Marc Jacobs, Easton Pearson and Black Milk Clothing. The diploma also provides a genuine pathway to further study, with graduates able to progress into a Bachelor of Creative Industries (Applied Fashion) with the University of Canberra. Small class sizes and hands-on, industry-experienced teachers give students the one-on-one guidance needed to build a professional folio and launch a career in fashion.
