Learn to create designs for knitted, woven and printed fabrics or textile products within a range of contexts, including fashion, interiors, homewares, craft and other commercial applications. You will develop your creative practice through: drawing, painting and illustration studio classes (print, knit and weave) design and concept development experimental textile samples using a range of materials and processes textile knowledge and contemporary sustainable practices presenting concepts using computer-aided design techniques With a focus on industry standards, you will have opportunities to develop a collection of textiles to technical and market specifications. You'll also explore the broader industry, including global and local sustainable concepts and innovations, clean manufacturing opportunities, circular systems, digital technologies and ethical considerations. <div

For domestic students, the 2026 government subsidised place fee is AU$9,800 per annum, and the full-fee place is AU$21,500 per annum. For international students, the total 2026 fee is AU$29,000. An additional Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF) of up to AU$373 for 2026 also applies, along with other expenses such as field trips, textbooks and equipment.
Yes, this course can be studied part-time over 3 years, with 2 evening classes per week and some Saturday classes. Part-time during the day may also be available after individual consultation with the Program Coordinator or Manager.
RMIT's Brunswick campus has a wide variety of specialist equipment for making textiles, from print, knit and weave to experimental textile development. Students learn in a studio environment with the support of skilled teachers and technical staff who are also practitioners in the textiles creative industry.
Graduates of this diploma are guaranteed entry into further courses at RMIT, including the Associate Degree in Fashion. Credit may apply which will reduce the total duration of the destination course. Pathways into the course are also available for those who may not meet standard entry requirements.
Your work will be assessed through a mix of folio work, technical examples and creative responses to briefs. Assignments will build on your skills as you gain proficiency in different disciplines. You will be encouraged to work in groups and individually, and upon successful completion of the diploma, you will be invited to join the graduate exhibition held at the end of each year.
