Integrative Psychotherapy in Theory
Sets the foundation for knowledge and skills in counselling and integrative arts therapy practice. Introduces a comprehensive theoretical framework encompassing person-centred and experiential psychotherapy, Eastern and Indigenous practices and psychodynamic interpersonal therapy.
Integrative Arts Therapy in Practice
Applies theory into practice through one-to-one therapeutic interactions with peers. Students build and strengthen therapeutic relationships and assist clients in exploring inner experiences using foundation and intermediate counselling skills.
Models of Arts Therapy Practice
Focuses on the theory and art making practice of art therapy methodologies, examining the expressive therapies continuum (ETC), person-centred (Rogerian) art therapy, analytical (Jungian) art therapy and mindfulness art therapy.
Materials, Forms and Processes
Explores the lived experience of the art-maker using a wide variety of art media, including 2D and 3D materials, ready-made imagery, found objects, natural objects and the human body.

Yes. Diploma of Arts Therapy graduates can advance directly into the second year of the Bachelor of Arts Therapy. Eligible applicants will be guaranteed 48 credit points out of a total of 144 points for the Bachelor of Arts Therapy.
The course consists of 8 subjects totalling 48 credit points, completed over one year full time (or part time equivalent). The academic year is structured into three trimesters, each consisting of 11 weeks of teaching followed by an exam week. Study involves a mix of lectures, tutorials, arts workshops, group discussions, and self-directed study, with approximately 3 hours for lectures and tutorials and 10 hours per week per subject for self-directed study.
Entry pathways include: completion of an Australian Senior Secondary Certificate (Year 12) or equivalent within the past two years; successful completion (or partial completion) of a higher education qualification; completion of a VET qualification at Certificate III level or higher; or work/life experience for those who left senior secondary education more than two years prior. All applicants must also submit a written admission statement outlining their reasons for pursuing the Diploma of Arts Therapy.
The Diploma of Arts Therapy is available on campus in Melbourne and Sydney, as well as online. There are three yearly intakes: February, May, and September. This course is exclusively available to domestic students commencing in 2026.
