Diploma of Automotive Technology

AUR50216 Diploma of Automotive Technology (CRICOS 102230D) is the highest automotive qualification Baxter Institute offers. It reflects the role of individuals who diagnose, analyse, evaluate, design and modify vehicle systems in the automotive retail, service and repair industry — a step beyond diagnosis into engineering-style analysis and specification work. No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

The core unit, AURAFA007 Develop and document specifications and procedures, sets the tone for the program: graduates are expected to produce formal technical documentation, not just complete repairs. The elective group builds analytical depth across the vehicle. Students analyse and evaluate electrical and electronic faults in engine management, driveline management, dynamic control management, and monitoring and protection systems; analyse and evaluate faults in light vehicle transmission and driveline systems, braking systems, steering and suspension systems, and engine and fuel systems; diagnose complex faults in light vehicle braking systems; conduct research and present technical reports; and estimate and quote automotive vehicle or machinery modification.

Baxter delivers the diploma over 41 weeks including holidays, face-to-face, using a combination of theory, practical and/or project assessments. There is no work-based training or work placement component. Training is delivered at 72-92 Langford Street, North Melbourne VIC 3051 and at 41-45 Commerce Avenue, Armadale WA. Entry requires a completed AUR40216 or AUR40816 Certificate IV, and the qualification opens a pathway to a degree in engineering or other higher education qualifications.
