Common Questions
For eligible domestic students, the Participant Course Fee (Subsidised) is $499.00 AUD, with a Participant Concession Fee of $340.00 AUD available for those who qualify. There are no incidental fees. This course can be subsidised through the Government of South Australia's Subsidised training — you can check your eligibility on the Skills SA website.
Those undertaking the Diploma of Automotive Technology must have completed an automotive Certificate IV qualification in one of the following disciplines, or be able to demonstrate equivalent competency: AUR40216 Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Diagnosis, or AUR40816 Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Overhauling (superseded by AUR40820).
The course duration is 26 weeks, including 6 weeks of holiday. It is delivered face-to-face (classroom and workshop) and through self-directed learning at the Adelaide campus, with intakes available in January, April, July, and October.
12 units must be completed in total, consisting of 1 core unit (AURAFA007 – Develop and document specifications and procedures) and 11 elective units covering areas such as electrical faults, braking systems, steering and suspension, transmission, engine and fuel systems, and vehicle modifications.
This qualification provides a pathway to work in automotive retail, service and repair industries. Possible job titles include, but are not limited to, senior service technician, diagnostic mechanic, supervisor, leading hand technician, and forklift diagnostic technician. Students may also choose to pursue further study such as a university course in Mechanical Engineering.
