Diploma of Automotive Technology

To enrol in the Diploma of Automotive Technology, students must have completed an automotive Certificate IV qualification — either AUR40216 Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Diagnosis or AUR40820 Certificate IV in Automotive Mechanical Overhauling — or be able to demonstrate equivalent competency. Students must also be a minimum of 18 years of age, have completed Year 10 or equivalent, and meet English proficiency requirements including an IELTS overall score of 6.0 (with no individual section score less than 5.5) or a Pre-entry Oxford English online test result of no less than B2.2 with a minimum score of 71.

The duration of the course is 52 weeks, comprising 46 weeks of Classroom/Workshop based training and 6 weeks of academic review/break. Please note that academic break times are indicative and are subject to change.

The Diploma of Automotive Technology recognises and develops existing workers who are performing advanced diagnosis and design tasks in the automotive industry. Job roles related to this qualification include Advanced Diagnostic Technician and Automotive System Designer.

Training and assessment is conducted through a combination of blended learning environments including classroom/face-to-face delivery, self-directed study, practical sessions, and simulated learning activities. Both knowledge and skill assessments are required to be completed with a competent outcome for each unit to achieve your certificate.

A Certificate is issued where all 12 units have been deemed competent. A Statement of Attainment is issued when only some units are deemed competent and the course is not completed in full. Issuing of your Certificate and/or Statement of Attainment occurs within 30 days of your last unit being deemed competent, however, this may be delayed if you have not provided your Unique Student Identifier (USI) or you have any outstanding fees.
