About This Course

This course is delivered by Mission Aviation Fellowship on behalf of Aviation Australia. Mission Aviation Fellowship's (MAF) team of experienced instructors have extensive flying experience and aviation industry knowledge, to provide pilot training with a focus on remote area experience. Mareeba's ideal location offers proximity to controlled airspace, mountainous terrain and a true remote area experience, not to mention 300 sunny days per year. MAF's aircraft fleet and training equipment include: Cessna 172's and Cessna 182 G1000, Vulcanair P68R, Gipps Aero GA8, Redbird MCX Motion Flight Simulator. Mission Aviation Fellowship is a Part 141 and Part 142 CASA approved flight training facility at Mareeba Airport.

Entry Requirements

General Requirements

Academic Suitability: Evidence of completion of Year 12 or equivalent. Where an applicant does not meet these requirements, Aviation Australia may consider sufficient relevant work experience (documented via a resume and referees) and/or a successfully completed higher level qualification that demonstrates academic suitability.
Minimum of 18 years of age
Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) Assessment: You must address in writing all the questions in the GTE section of the application form.
Current Valid Passport: The applicant's passport must be current and valid for at least 6 months from the course commencement date.
Documentation Requirements: All documentation supplied must be certified and translated (in full) to English.
Some countries may require additional assessment requirements, such as a higher IELTS or equivalent level and/or student interview.
Before commencing practical training: Aviation Reference Number, CASA Class 1 Medical Certificate, and Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC) must be obtained.
Successful completion of aptitude test with MAF (required before Letter of Offer is confirmed).

Where is the course delivered and what is the training environment like?

The course is delivered at Mission Aviation Fellowship – Mareeba Airport, located at 37 Vicary Rd, Mareeba QLD 4880 in North Queensland. Mareeba's ideal location offers proximity to controlled airspace, mountainous terrain and a true remote area experience, not to mention 300 sunny days per year.

What aircraft and training equipment will I use during the course?

MAF's aircraft fleet and training equipment include Cessna 172's and Cessna 182 G1000, Vulcanair P68R, Gipps Aero GA8, and a Redbird MCX Motion Flight Simulator.

What are the study requirements and how is the course structured?

This is an intensive full-time course requiring a minimum of 20 hours per week of face-to-face training (conducted between 7:50am – 4:30pm Monday to Friday, though times may vary), plus a minimum of 5 hours per week of self-study with access to a computer and reliable internet connection. Students are expected to complete additional revision on a regular (daily) basis, and it is recommended that students do not undertake any employment whilst studying this program.

How much does the course cost and when does it start?

The course costs AUD $112,000. Payment plans are available, and there may be additional fees not contained in the tuition fees. Please note prices are subject to change. Course start dates are 27 January 2026 and 13 July 2026.

Can I receive Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) if I already hold a pilot licence?

Yes. If you hold a CASA Recreational Pilot Licence, CASA Private Pilot Licence and/or a foreign pilot licence, you may be able to have your previous studies, qualifications and experience assessed for certification against this course. You are encouraged to enquire for further details.
