Diploma of Aviation (Flight Instructor)

TVSA's AVI50419 Diploma of Aviation (Flight Instructor) trains qualified commercial pilots to work as flight instructors throughout Australia — a popular way to build flight experience while developing a rewarding aviation career. Delivered face-to-face at TVSA's Bacchus Marsh campus over 20 weeks, the course adds 37.2 flying hours (including simulator time) to a student's logbook and builds a substantial portfolio of briefings and teaching resources, alongside the training-and-assessment units needed to design, deliver and assess flight training. Training combines face-to-face theory and briefings with practical flight and simulator training, and is assessed through practical demonstrations, verbal questioning, theory exams and assignments. Tuition covers 37.2 flying hours in TVSA's Cessna 172, 2 simulator hours, pre- and post-flight briefings, spin and design-feature endorsement training, a basic instrument flight training certificate, the PMI theory course, and first attempts at the PMI exam, FIR flight test, spin endorsement and design-feature test. On graduation, students hold a Grade 3 Flight Instructor rating, with further pathways into Grade 1 and Grade 2 Flight Instructor endorsements, and multi-engine or instrument ratings.
