The course runs for 52 weeks in total, comprising 40 academic weeks and 12 weeks of holiday, spread across four terms of 10 academic weeks each.
This course has 20 units of competency, all of which are elective units. Learners must complete all 20 units to complete this course.
To enrol, you need a Higher School Certificate or equivalent; or a vocational qualification from the RII Resources and Infrastructure Industry Training Package at AQF level 4 or other relevant qualification at AQF 4 level or higher; or employment experience in a relevant position such as a Civil Construction Design Assistant. International students have additional entry requirements specified in the course brochure.
After completing the RII50520 Diploma of Civil Construction Design, graduates may seek employment as a Civil Construction Designer or Civil Engineer Draftsperson, or in positions such as senior civil works designer or a para-professional designer who supports professional engineers. Academically, graduates may also progress to the RII60520 Advanced Diploma of Civil Construction Design or other AQF level 6 qualifications.
Students are required to attend 20 hours of scheduled contact per week for 40 weeks. Classes are delivered face to face and online, with timetables running from 7am to 10pm Monday to Sunday, subject to availability. Additionally, students are expected to spend at least 10 hours of individual study per week on research, learning activities and assessment activities utilising the facilities and resources available at YES College.
