About This Course

This qualification reflects the role of experienced building professionals who apply their knowledge of structural principles, risk and financial management, estimating, contract administration, contractor selection, quality control, and site management to residential and commercial building projects. Residential construction is limited to National Construction Code (NCC) Class 1 and 10 buildings, up to a maximum of three storeys. Commercial construction is limited to NCC Class 2 to 9 buildings, Type B and Type C constructions. Occupational titles may include Builder, General Foreperson, and Building Inspector. The construction industry strongly supports that training and assessment must take place in a real or closely simulated workplace environment to ensure the authenticity and relevance of skills developed. To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have access to a live building and construction workplace to meet the requirements detailed in the Assessment Requirements of core unit CPCCBC4008 Supervise communication and administration processes for building and construction projects. Completion of the general construction induction training program specified by the model Code of Practice for Construction Work is required for any person who is to carry out construction work. Achievement of unit CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry meets this requirement. Builder licensing varies across States and Territories and requirements additional to the attainment of this qualification may be required.

Entry Requirements

General Requirements

Must be 18 years of age or older at the time of course commencement.
Prospective students may be required to undertake a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) and/or a pre-enrolment interview.
Must have completed Australian Year 12 or equivalent level of schooling or a Certificate III or higher qualification with an Australian institution.
Must demonstrate English level of IELTS 6.0 overall with no band less than 5.5 or equivalent, such as: IBT 60, PTE 50, CAE 169, OET B, General English Advanced or equivalent, MOI Certificate, Duolingo 95, MET, LANGUAGECERT Academic, CELPIP General, Certificate IV or higher qualification with an Australian institution.
Must have basic digital literacy, including the ability to confidently use the internet and common software applications for learning purposes, completing assignments, and engaging with course content.
Must be able to participate in training within a simulated workplace environment, including performing manual handling tasks.

What assessment methods are used throughout the course?

Assessment methods include Written Questions or Reports to demonstrate understanding of theoretical concepts, Practical Activities or Projects simulating real-world tasks, Case Study analysis for critical thinking and problem-solving, Observation during practical sessions or workplace activities, and Work Placement where applicable, during which performance and skill application are monitored and assessed according to workplace standards.

What do I receive if I do not complete all units of the qualification?

Students will need to successfully complete all 27 units in this course to receive the certificate of CPC50220 Diploma of Building and Construction (Building). Learners who partially complete the qualification will receive a Statement of Attainment for the units they are deemed competent.

Can I receive credit for prior study or work experience?

Yes. Lead College recognises qualifications issued by other RTOs and will accept and mutually recognise qualifications and Statements of Attainment awarded by any other registered training organisation. Credit Transfer can be granted for subjects or units previously completed where equivalence can be established. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is also available for skills and knowledge gained through work and life experience; eligibility is discussed during the entry process and interview stage.
