Diploma of Building and Construction (Building)

The Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) is designed for builders who oversee construction projects, including selecting contractors, managing work quality, and liaising with clients. Graduates may also become the appropriately licensed person with responsibility under the relevant building licensing authority in their State or Territory, with licensing requirements varying across Australia.

The qualification builds on trade-level skills to develop supervisory and management capability across medium-rise building projects. Students cover project quality and risk management, workplace health and safety, building codes and standards, construction contracts, project costing, and the supervision of on-site building work, along with structural principles for residential and medium-rise construction.

Delivered over 104 weeks at Horizon Training Institute's Geelong campus, the course prepares graduates for roles such as builder, construction project manager, site supervisor, contract administrator and estimator. On completion, students may progress to the Advanced Diploma of Building and Construction (Management) or further study such as a Bachelor of Construction Management.
