The Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) (CPC50220) is offered by The Canberra Training School Pty. Ltd. (trading as CBTC – Canberra Business and Technology College) under the broad field of Architecture and Building. It reflects the role of building professionals who apply knowledge of structural principles, risk and financial management, estimating, and preparing and administering building and construction contracts, while selecting contractors, overseeing work quality and managing construction work on building projects. The course covers building codes and standards for Class 1, 10 and Type B/C constructions, contract preparation and administration, cost estimating, labour and material scheduling, tender documentation, site surveys and set-out, and managing construction business finances, environmental practices and technical/legal reporting, alongside project quality and stakeholder management electives. The course runs over 78 weeks in a blended delivery mode combining scheduled face-to-face classes with online learning activities, assessed through written assessment, projects, case studies and role plays, and requires a minimum of 35-45 hours weekly study commitment. A work placement component gives students practical experience shadowing construction professionals, assisting with project management, site supervision, quality control and safety compliance. The course is delivered across CBTC's Canberra (Braddon and Gungahlin) and Sydney (Bella Vista) campuses.
