Diploma of Building and Construction (Building)

CPC50220 Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) is a nationally recognised qualification for learners seeking supervisory, management and technical roles in the building and construction industry. It reflects the role of building professionals who apply knowledge of structural principles, building codes and standards, project planning, risk management, estimating and contract administration across residential and commercial construction projects. Students develop skills in reading and interpreting plans and specifications, applying building codes and compliance requirements, preparing cost estimates and tender documentation, scheduling and coordinating construction activities, selecting and managing contractors, supervising onsite work, and administering building contracts. The course also covers financial management, site safety, quality assurance, sustainability practices and construction business operations relevant to the sector. Training is delivered through face-to-face classroom sessions, practical project-based activities, simulated workplace environments and onsite construction training designed to reflect real industry conditions. Residential construction covered under this qualification is limited to NCC Class 1 and 10 buildings up to three storeys, while commercial construction is limited to NCC Class 2 to 9, Type B and C buildings. The qualification runs over 78 weeks and is delivered face-to-face at Yarra College Australia's Melbourne campus, supporting progression into supervisory and management roles within the industry. On completion, graduates are prepared for roles such as builder, general foreperson, building inspector, construction project manager, contracts administrator, construction estimator or site supervisor, with a further study pathway into the Advanced Diploma of Building and Construction (Management) or a Bachelor of Construction Management.
