About This Course

The Diploma of Business prepares students for a career in accounting and related financial aspects of business. The degree runs over two (2) semesters that each run for thirteen (13) weeks based on a full-time study load of four (4) units per semester with an overall requirement of 80 credit points. The Diploma of Business opens the door to job opportunities in a wide range of businesses and further study, all around the world. Graduates with a Diploma of Business are ready for business and on a path to rewarding professional careers.

Entry Requirements

General Requirements

Successful completion of an Australian senior secondary qualification (or recognised equivalent) with the equivalent of a minimum Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) of 60 and NSW (or equivalent) Band 4 Standard English; and NSW (or equivalent) Band 3 Advanced Mathematics; or NSW (or equivalent) Band 4 Standard 2 Mathematics.
An equivalent secondary qualification overseas that also meets the mathematics requirement above.
An accredited Tertiary Preparation Program or a Foundation Year Program offered by an accredited Australian provider that also meets the mathematics requirement above.
One year of completed accredited full-time study at a registered institution of tertiary education at AQF level 5 or above that also meets the mathematics requirement above.
International Students: An equivalent secondary qualification overseas; or an accredited Tertiary Preparation Program or a Foundation Year Program offered by an Australian university; or one year of successful full-time study in an accredited course at an Australian higher education provider; or admission to candidature for an undergraduate degree at an Australian university.
Special/Alternative Admission: Applicants who are 21 years of age or over who have not completed Year 12 may gain entry by successful completion of a Special Tertiary Admissions Test administered by a tertiary admissions centre; or submission of a portfolio of prior and current academic and professional work; or interview with the Dean to assess capacity for higher education studies.
English Language Requirements: IELTS Academic 6.0 overall with no band less than 6.0 (or equivalent alternative test result issued no more than two years prior to date of application).

Is the Diploma of Business recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework?

Yes. Upon successful completion, the award conferred is recognised in the AQF at Level 5, and it meets AQF requirements that would allow a pathway to further undergraduate studies.

Is part-time study available for international students?

No. The part-time mode is not available to a holder of a student visa who is not a citizen of Australia or New Zealand, or who is not an Australian permanent resident, or who is a temporary resident of Australia. Part-time study is available to domestic students only, running over 4 semesters (2 years).

What English language test scores are required to enrol in this course?

Students must demonstrate competency in English. Accepted test scores include IELTS Academic 6.0 overall with no band less than 6.0, TOEFL iBT 83 (Reading 13, Writing 21, Listening 12, Speaking 18), PTE Academic 58 overall with no score below 50, C1 Advanced 180 overall, OET C+ in each section, KITE B2 (>450), or Duolingo 115 overall. Test results must have been issued no more than two years prior to the date of application.

The Diploma of Business is delivered at four campus locations: Level 16, 233 Castlereagh St, Sydney NSW 2000; 107 George St, Parramatta NSW 2150; Level 1, 237 Ryrie St, Geelong VIC 3220; and 363 King St, West Melbourne VIC 3003.

How is the Diploma of Business assessed?

The Institute uses authentic assessment principles that may include practical exercises, case studies, presentations, reports, online simulations, essays, and examinations. These may include being done under invigilation.
