Course Content
Information Systems Applications in Business
Provides an introduction to information systems (IS) by presenting the most relevant concepts used to manage the integration of IS into business and society. Facilitates proficient ways to simplify the use of technology in complex IS business environments. Uses case studies and industry examples to develop both theoretical and practical understanding of business information systems.
Database Management System
Introduces students to the fundamentals of relational databases. Covers data modelling using entity relationship diagrams, structured query language (SQL), procedural language (PL), data analysis, sharing options, database systems security, distributed database management systems, and data mining.
Software Development
Covers the fundamentals of software development including investigating client application software problems, evaluating approaches, and designing solutions using a programming language such as Python. Takes students through the full software development lifecycle including writing specifications, testing, and design.
Systems Analysis Design
Covers principles of analysis and design for information systems. Includes data requirements gathering, analysis, data modelling at conceptual, logical and physical levels, functional dependencies, domain normalisation, and user-centred design approach.
Information Systems Security
Provides a comprehensive study in information systems security including professional, legal, and ethical issues. Covers identifying security threats to infrastructure and information in commercial and government organisations, risk assessment, risk management plans, and mitigation of security threats and attacks.
Business Process Modelling
Facilitates examination and improvement of business operations using business process modelling software tools. Students make informed recommendations to solve complex business problems and improve organisational effectiveness. Pre-requisite: MBIS4004 (Co-requisite).
Professional Practice in Information Systems
Educates students about ethical, legal and social issues faced by information system professionals, including data and privacy, confidentiality, cybercrime and internet fraud. Develops negotiation and conflict resolution skills in preparation for IS professional roles.
Cybersecurity Risk Assessment and Strategies
Introduces the background of cyber security and cyber risk management. Covers risk management techniques based on international standards including ISO 31000, information security, cyber-risk management, cyber risk assessment (identification, analysis, evaluation, treatment), risk measurement, risk scales, uncertainty, high-consequence risk, and business continuity management.

To complete the Graduate Diploma of Business Information Systems (Cyber Security), students must pass 8 units totalling 80 credit points (10 credit points per unit). Completion of the Graduate Diploma of Business Information Systems (Cyber Security) provides direct entry and advanced standing into the Master of Business Information Systems (Cyber Security) at AIH. Students studying full-time will have 12 hours of classes per week (for 4 units) on-campus.
