Course Content
Academic Skills for Success
Introduces students to academic skills required for academic studies. Develops academic communication and study skills including time management, organisational skills, digital skills, referencing, critical thinking, academic writing, research and investigation techniques, and presentation skills. Weekly workshops are used as interactive sessions with practical exercises.
Foundations of Information Technology
Introduces students to the field of information technology, covering theoretical knowledge and practical application of basic IT aspects relevant to 21st century business operations. Topics include the Internet, computer hardware, operating systems, software tools, networking, communication systems, database technology, business information systems design and management, and current IT trends.
Service Management
Encompasses theoretical concepts of creating meaningful customer relationships, identifying needs, service design, delivering quality services and service recovery. Explores the impact of technology, experience design in the digital age, emerging trends impacting service design, and the role of the internal customer and supplier relationships in the customer journey.
Principles of Management and Organisations
Provides students with an understanding of principles of management applied across organisations. Covers theories of management, inquiry-based skills in the contemporary workplace, leadership and management practices, working in a diverse global workplace, teams and teamwork, planning and controlling information flow, organising and leading, motivating and rewarding, and management strategies in personal and professional contexts.
Business Communication and Stakeholder Management
Provides fundamentals of business communication with emphasis on theoretical knowledge and application of relevant concepts in communication situations within and outside the organisation. Helps students analyse, select, and apply appropriate strategies for internal and external communication.
Accounting for Managers
Intended for business students not specialising in finance or accounting. Covers key concepts in accounting and finance including accounting fundamentals, accounting for common items, planning, capital investment, and the 'what, why, so what, what next?' question sequence. Designed to provide financial literacy for generalists, HR specialists, marketers, IT specialists and others.
Marketing Foundations
Offers an introduction into marketing and locates the function of marketing within the organisational context and career. Covers core marketing topics such as micro and macro environmental analysis, ethics, and the 4Ps, and provides a strong foundation for more specialised marketing units.
Introduction to Global Business
Provides foundational knowledge in global business with a focus on understanding the global business environment and building strategies for firms in the context of increasing globalisation. Covers theories and frameworks explaining foreign direct investment and trade, and strategic evaluation of the business firm in a global market.
Common Questions
The course tuition fee for 2024 is $17,000 over 1 year ($2,125 per unit), and for 2026 it is $17,840 ($2,230 per unit). All fees are in Australian dollars and are subject to change without notice. Course fees are to be paid in full before enrolment or selection of subjects in any given semester. AIH also offers Pay as You Learn payment plans. The course has multiple intakes throughout the year: February, March, May, June, August, September, October, and November. For 2026 Semester 1 Block 4, classes start on 1 June 2026, with the last date to enrol also being 1 June 2026 and the census date on 8 June 2026.
To complete the diploma, students must pass 8 units: 6 core units and 2 specialisation units. The 6 core units are Academic Skills for Success (BBUS1000), Foundations of Information Technology (BBUS1002), Principles of Management and Organisations (BBMG1002), Business Communication and Stakeholder Management (BBMG1003), Accounting for Managers (BBMG1006), and Marketing Foundations (BBMG1004). The 2 specialisation units are Service Management (BBMG1001) and Introduction to Global Business (BBMG1005). Each unit is worth 10 credit points, for a total of 80 credit points required for the award.
The Diploma of Business (Management) is embedded in the Bachelor and Associate Degree of Business (Management). Completion of the diploma provides direct entry and advanced standing into the Associate Degree of Business (Management) and the Bachelor of Business (Management) at AIH.
Full-time students will have approximately 8 hours of on-campus classes each week, plus a minimum of 10–12 hours per week in their own time for assignments, readings, projects, and preparation for quizzes and presentations. Assessment types include reports, project documentation, case studies and presentations, essays and assignments, quizzes, and practicals and team-based projects.
