About This Course

The Diploma of Business is more than a course; it's a career catalyst, designed for those ready to step into the fast-paced world of commerce, entrepreneurship, and innovation. The Diploma qualifies individuals who apply integrated technical and theoretical concepts in a range of contexts to undertake advanced skilled or paraprofessional work and as a pathway for further learning. The course structure provides you a broad-based curriculum with a set of core units for a strong foundation in business and help in your future career. VIT's Diploma of Business (DipBus) is an undergraduate course at the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) Level 5. Graduates at this level will have technical and theoretical knowledge and concepts, with depth in some areas within a field of work and learning. Graduates of a Higher Education Diploma will demonstrate the application of knowledge and skills with personal responsibility and autonomy in performing complex technical operations. They are responsible for their own outputs in relation to broad parameters for quantity and quality.

Entry Requirements

General Requirements

Applicants must be at least 18 years old at the time of enrolment.

English Language Requirements (any one of the following):

Completed an Australian foundation or qualifying program (at least six months full-time)
Completed Year 12 or equivalent in an English-speaking country
Completed studies taught and assessed in English, such as Year 12 (NSW HSC, VCE, or equivalent), a Diploma (AQF 5) or higher qualification, or at least 4 units (equivalent to 0.5 EFTSL) at Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree level (AQF Level 6) or higher
IELTS Academic: Overall 5.5, with no band below 5.0, or an equivalent score in another approved English test
Successfully completed an ELICOS (e.g. English for Academic Purposes) or another approved English course at the required IELTS-equivalent level

Academic Requirements (any one of the following):

Australian senior secondary certificate (NSW HSC, VCE, or equivalent)
International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma or other recognised overseas secondary qualification
At least 4 units (equivalent to 0.5 EFTSL) in a higher education course at Diploma level (AQF Level 5)
At least 2 units (equivalent to 0.25 EFTSL) in a higher education course at Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree level (AQF Level 6)
A vocational Certificate IV qualification (AQF Level 4)
Completion of a foundation or preparation program in Australia that qualifies you for entry into a bachelor's degree, meeting VIT's academic entry standards
21 years or older at the start of your studies, or submission of a portfolio demonstrating academic achievements, qualifications, volunteer work, or other relevant experiences that demonstrate readiness for tertiary study

Can I continue to a Bachelor's degree after completing the Diploma of Business?

Yes. VIT provides two exit options: students can exit with the Diploma of Business (8 units / 48 credit points) or continue on to study a Bachelor of Business with specialisations in Accounting, Human Resource Management, International Business Management, Marketing, or Business Technology (24 units with 6 units in one specialisation and 2 capstone units).

Is the Diploma of Business available online for international students?

Yes. The Diploma of Business is available online for both Domestic and International Online students. International On-Campus students are taught via Face-to-Face/Blended Learning mode. Online students have the flexibility to study wherever they are to suit their commitments.

Can I receive credit for prior learning or previous study?

Yes. Students may be eligible to offset some units based upon Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) credits. Eligible students may receive up to a maximum of 24 credit points (four units) for RPL. However, students must complete at least 50% of their units at VIT to qualify for a VIT award.
