Course Content
Academic Skills for Success
Introduces students to academic skills required for academic studies, including time management, organisational skills, digital skills, referencing, critical thinking, academic writing, research and investigation techniques, and presentation skills. Weekly workshops provide interactive sessions with practical exercises.
Foundations of Information Technology
Introduces students to the field of information technology, covering theoretical knowledge and practical application of basic IT aspects relevant to 21st century business operations. Topics include the Internet, computer hardware, operating systems, software tools, networking, communication systems, database technology, and business information systems.
Service Management
Encompasses theoretical concepts of creating meaningful customer relationships, identifying needs and service design, delivering quality services, and service recovery. Explores the impact of technology, experience design in the digital age, and emerging trends impacting service design, as well as service culture and internal customer/supplier relationships.
Principles of Management and Organisations
Provides students with an understanding of principles of management applied across organisations. Covers theories of management and their application to contemporary practice, strategies for working in a diverse global workplace, teams and teamwork, planning and controlling information flow, organising and leading, motivating and rewarding, and management strategies in personal and professional contexts.
Business Communication and Stakeholder Management
Provides fundamentals of business communication with emphasis on theoretical knowledge and application. Helps students analyse, select, and apply appropriate communication strategies for internal and external stakeholders including top management, junior-level employees, colleagues, customers, vendors, and suppliers.
Accounting for Managers
Intended for business students not specialising in finance or accounting. Covers accounting fundamentals, accounting for common items, planning, capital investment, and the importance of the 'what, why, so what, what next?' question sequence. Suitable for generalists, HR specialists, marketers, IT specialists, and others.
Marketing Foundations
Offers an introduction into marketing and locates the function of marketing within the organisational context. Covers core marketing topics including micro and macro environmental analysis, ethics, and the 4Ps. Provides a strong foundation for more specialised AIH marketing units in years two and three.
Introduction to Global Business
Provides foundational knowledge in global business with a focus on understanding the global business environment and building strategies for firms in context of increasing globalisation. Covers theories and frameworks explaining foreign direct investment and trade, and cross-cultural business management practices.

The course tuition fee for 2024 is $17,000 over 1 year, with a fee of $2,125 per unit. For 2026, the course tuition fee increases to $17,840 over 1 year, with a fee of $2,230 per unit. The course has multiple intakes throughout the year: February, March, May, June, August, September, October, and November. For 2026, Semester 1 Block 4 classes start on 1 June 2026, with the last date to enrol also being 1 June 2026 and the census date on 8 June 2026.
To complete the diploma, students must pass 8 units totalling 80 credit points (10 credit points per unit). This consists of 6 core units (Academic Skills for Success, Foundations of Information Technology, Principles of Management and Organisations, Business Communication and Stakeholder Management, Accounting for Managers, and Marketing Foundations) and 2 specialisation units (Service Management and Introduction to Global Business). The course is completed in 1 year full-time.
Completion of the Diploma of Business (Management) provides direct entry and advanced standing into the Associate Degree of Business (Management) and the Bachelor of Business (Management) at AIH. The diploma is embedded in both the Bachelor and Associate Degree of Business (Management) and has been designed as both an exit qualification and a pathway into the Bachelor qualification.
The course is delivered at two campuses: Sydney (Level 3 & 4, 545 Kent Street, NSW 2000) and Melbourne (Level 1, 20 Queen Street, VIC 3000). Students studying full-time will have approximately 8 hours of on-campus classes each week, plus a minimum of 10–12 hours of independent study per week.
Assessment types are varied and include reports, project documentation, case studies and presentations; essays and assignments; quizzes; and practicals and team-based projects. The course emphasises practical, professionally focused, and research-based learning.
