About This Course

The Diploma of Business (International Hotel Management), delivered by Torrens University Australia trading as Blue Mountains International Hotel Management School (BMIHMS), gives students the foundation for a career in the global accommodation industry. The course combines classroom learning with applied training across eight core subjects covering hospitality operations, food and beverage, and accommodation and guest experience. Students complete their first 12-week trimester at the Leura (Blue Mountains) campus before continuing the remainder of their studies at Surry Hills, equipping them for entry-level roles or further study in hotel management. A BMIHMS Gap Year pathway is also available, combining study, travel and industry experience. Students complete 360 hours of paid industry placement, with the opportunity to complete it in Sydney, regional Australia, or with industry partners around the world, gaining practical knowledge of hospitality operations including food and beverage, front office and housekeeping, along with strong customer service skills.

BMIHMS is ranked 1st in Australia and 21st globally for Hospitality and Leisure Management (QS World University Rankings by Subject, 2026). 96% of graduates are employed full time within six months, and 9 in 10 work in their field (Kantar, 2024-2025). The course is delivered on campus over 1 year full time (2 years part time), across the Blue Mountains and Sydney campuses, with an intake in September 2026.

General Requirements

Domestic students — Admission criteria:

Australian secondary school certificate, or equivalent
Successful completion of a Vocational qualification (AQF Level 4), or above
Successful completion of at least 0.25 EFTSL at AQF level 6, 0.5 EFTSL at AQF level 5 or above, or equivalent
Successful completion of Year 10 or equivalent (e.g. Certificate III) together with a minimum of 2 years' full-time relevant, cognate work experience demonstrated by a resume
Minimum age of 17, together with successful completion of a readiness assessment provided by the University

Check the domestic course fee schedule for the cost of your course. Eligible Australian students may choose to defer some, or all, of their tuition fees through FEE-HELP. A range of Blue Mountains International Hotel School scholarships is available.

International students — Admission criteria:

Australian Year 12 or equivalent, and be 18 years of age by the start of the first trimester
Academic IELTS 6.0 with no skills band less than 5.5
Alternative entry requirements may be available, which may include assessment and approval of prior study or successful completion of a readiness assessment

Check the international course fee schedule for the cost of your course. Onshore international students requiring a student visa should choose campus-based / blended options. Course fees can be paid across three study periods, with each instalment due before the beginning of the academic stage census date. A range of financial scholarships is available to support international students.

If you have already completed a qualification or gained skills through life or work experience, you may be able to credit this against your degree through Recognition of Prior Learning or Course Credit transfer, with further study pathway options also available.
