Diploma of Civil Construction Design

The RII50520 Diploma of Civil Construction Design prepares students to work as civil design paraprofessionals supporting professional engineers, applying a high level of autonomy and judgement in planning and selecting equipment, methods and techniques for civil design projects. Students develop site-specific work designs to meet client requirements, studying units in computer-aided design (CAD) for basic drawing elements and 3D models, engineering drawing production, technical mathematics and calculus, and detailed design work covering landscaping, traffic analysis, and civil concrete and timber structures, alongside project quality, risk and time management and team leadership units. The broad mix of technical, managerial, coordination and planning content builds the skills needed to manage civil works design processes and maintain a formal quality system. The course is delivered at The Centre of Excellence's North Geelong, Melbourne and Adelaide campuses over 82 weeks including holidays, with new intakes accepted every month. International applicants must meet the English language requirements set by the Department of Home Affairs, with the college accepting IELTS Academic (6.0), TOEFL iBT (60-78) or PTE Academic (51.6) as evidence of proficiency. Graduates are prepared for design technician, project coordinator and para-professional design roles across public and private civil engineering and infrastructure projects.
