Common Questions
The Diploma of Commerce is a full year of study equivalent to the first year of Bachelor of Business, and offers unique academic and industry learning experiences designed to inspire. Whilst this qualification matches the academic standards of the first year of a bachelor degree, it is taught in smaller groups of typically 25-30 students where you will combine knowledge and experience in a fun, challenging yet rewarding program.
Yes. The Diploma of Commerce provides credit and guaranteed entry into further study. If you'd like to pursue further study after completion of this course, you can continue your studies in the Bachelor of Business. There are also Guaranteed Pathway packages available, including Commerce (Diploma)/Business (Degree), Commerce (Diploma)/Accounting (Degree), and Commerce (Diploma)/Accounting/Business (Double degree).
Throughout your study, you will engage in work-integrated-learning (WIL) projects undertaken with RMIT partners to allow firsthand industry experience. These projects form a portfolio of work demonstrating to prospective employers the practical business experience gained throughout your study. You will also have access to the RMIT Trading Facility, which provides a live market data feed from Thomson Reuters, as well as financial analysis tools used by professionals at the world's leading banks and investment firms.
For domestic students in a Commonwealth Supported Place, the annual student contribution amount for a standard year of full-time study is between AU$4,738 to AU$17,399, depending on the band of each subject. For international students, the total fee is AU$36,480 (2026 total). An additional Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF) of up to AU$373 maximum applies for 2026. Eligible domestic students may defer payment through HECS-HELP.
Ongoing assessment throughout the semester includes examinations, essays, reports, oral presentations, group projects, research projects and practical assignments. As part of the diploma, you will also have the chance to apply and refine a range of professional skills in a workplace or in a simulated business environment, demonstrating your professional or vocational skills and interacting with industry and the community.
