The Diploma of Community Services (CHC52021) has a duration of 104 weeks including holidays and 400 hours of work placement.
Yes, all students enrolled in this qualification are required to undertake 400 hours of work placement. AHSI will organise the work placement opportunities for students and where possible in organisations located close to their address. Should a student wish to change the work placement provider, they will need AHSI suitability approval, which can only take place after AHSI has assessed that organisation and signed a contract with the new provider.
International students must demonstrate English proficiency through one of the following: an IELTS level of 6.0 or above with no band under 5.5, TOEFL 60-78 (internet-based), Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE) 52, Cambridge English Advanced (CAE) score of 169, or OET score of C for each test component.
This qualification consists of 20 units of competency made up of 12 core units and 8 elective units. Core units cover areas such as case management, cultural safety, crisis response, legal and ethical compliance, and work health and safety, while elective units include counselling, trauma-informed care, and community development strategies.
Graduates of the Diploma of Community Services may pursue careers as a Community Development Officer, Community Services Worker, Case Coordinator/Worker/Manager, Alcohol and another Drug Support Worker, Youth Support Worker, Program Coordinator/Manager, or Welfare Worker.
