Students are required to complete two separate work placements in a community welfare agency, totalling 400 hours (combined). These placements are designed to meet the requirements of Community Work Australia, formerly the Australian Community Workers Association (ACWA).
The Bachelor of Community Services is accredited by Community Work Australia (formerly the Australian Community Workers Association) in Melbourne, Sydney, Perth, and Brisbane. Community Work Australia accreditation for the Adelaide campus is currently pending.
The course is conducted over trimesters, with three trimesters in each academic year. It is comprised of 24 units (360 credit points) across eight trimesters and will be completed within three years. Students study three units per trimester, with most units consisting of a two-hour lecture and a one-hour tutorial per week, plus seven hours of personal study per unit per week.
Acknowledge Education provides significant support and guidance before, during, and after placements, including preparation seminars, individual appointments to find a good agency match, interview coaching and résumé writing assistance, debriefing, placement materials, and an allocated Liaison Officer while students are on placement.
Yes. Applicants who have left secondary school more than three years ago and have not undertaken VET or higher education study can apply based on other evidence of academic capability. This includes a minimum of five years of work/life experience in Community Services or a similar field, or completion of an Australian Senior Secondary Certificate more than two years ago along with Units 3 and 4 English requirements.
