Diploma of Community Services

CHC52021 Diploma of Community Services reflects the roles of community services, case management and social housing workers who manage, coordinate and/or deliver person-centred services to individuals, groups and communities. Workers at this level have specialised skills and operate autonomously under broad direction from senior management, often supervising other workers and volunteers, coordinating case management, or developing new business opportunities.

Across its 20 units of competency (12 core, 8 elective), students cover assessing co-existing needs, developing and implementing service programs, responding to crisis situations, case management, working with diverse people, cultural safety, legal and ethical compliance, and workplace debriefing and support.

Delivery combines 14 hours/week face-to-face classes, 6 hours/week online study via Moodle, and a minimum 200 hours of work placement over the 45-week tuition period, plus 10-15 hours of self-study per unit. Graduates can pursue roles such as community care manager, coordinator of volunteer work, team leader, case coordinator or community services coordinator, with pathways into the Bachelor of Nursing or Bachelor of Social Work.
