Diploma of Community Services

The Diploma of Community Services (CHC52021) is a nationally recognised vocational qualification offered by The Canberra Training School Pty. Ltd., trading as Canberra Business and Technology College (CBTC). It reflects the roles of community services, case management and social housing workers involved in managing, coordinating and/or delivering person-centred services to individuals, groups and communities.

Training is delivered in a blended mode combining scheduled face-to-face classroom learning with online learning activities, over a course duration of 52 weeks, at CBTC's campuses in Braddon and Gungahlin (ACT) and Bella Vista (NSW). It includes a mandatory work placement of 200 hours in an approved Community Services Organisation, alongside a minimum recommended weekly study commitment of 35–45 hours covering class participation, homework, self-study, assignment activities and assessments.

The qualification covers 16 units of competency (8 core and 8 elective), spanning developing and implementing service programs, workplace communication strategies, sociological factors affecting clients, diversity, legal and ethical compliance, workplace debriefing, and case management topics such as coordinating complex case requirements and case management supervision. It suits career changers and current community services workers seeking formal recognition, providing a pathway into roles across community services, case management and social housing work.
