Diploma of Community Services

CHC52025 Diploma of Community Services reflects the role of community services workers who deliver, manage and coordinate person-centred services to individuals, groups and communities, working autonomously within their scope of practice and at times supervising other workers. Delivered by Vigil International College at its Parramatta campus in a blended face-to-face and online format, the course comprises 20 units of competency — 12 core units covering assessing co-existing needs, developing and implementing service programs, responding to crisis situations, case management, sociological impacts on community work, responding to domestic and family violence, working with diverse people, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural safety, legal and ethical compliance, workplace debriefing, professional practice and work health and safety, plus 8 elective units in goal-directed planning, case management practice, complex case coordination, case management supervision, advanced assessments, empowerment-focused support, recovery-oriented mental health services and professional networking. The 52-week, full-time program (20 hours per week) includes a mandatory 100-hour industry work placement, for which students need a National Police Clearance and current immunisation records. The course suits students who have typically completed CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support and are progressing toward roles such as case worker, community services worker, family services coordinator, youth case worker or care team leader, with further pathways into CHC50421 Diploma of Youth Work or CHC62015 Advanced Diploma of Community Sector Management.
