The course is delivered through a blended learning model that includes face-to-face training two days per week in classroom and simulated work environments, self-paced independent study, and work placement. The total volume of learning is 1,632 hours, comprising 768 hours of structured training and 864 hours of assessment activities, structured over 8 terms of 10 weeks each.
Yes, work placement is a required component of the course. Students must complete 32 days (256 hours) of practical work placement throughout the course to apply their learned skills in real-world scenarios.
The total course fee is $23,300.00 AUD. This includes an upfront enrolment fee of $300.00, a materials fee of $2,000.00, and tuition fees paid in instalments across multiple terms. The first tuition instalment (covering Terms 1 and 2) is $7,550.00, and the second instalment (Term 3) is $2,625.00, with further instalments across subsequent terms.
The CHC52021 Diploma of Community Services includes two specialisations: Child, Youth and Family Welfare and Responding to Family Violence. Elective units cover areas such as counselling clients affected by domestic and family violence, implementing trauma-informed care, and working collaboratively to maintain safe environments for children and young people.
Students are assessed through diverse and practical methods including workplace observation (assessing skills in real-world settings), a portfolio of work (comprehensive documentation reflecting workplace competency), written responses (case studies and research-based tasks), role play observation (simulating scenarios to assess application of skills), and workplace supervisor feedback during work placements.
