Diploma of Conservation and Ecosystem Management

TAFE SA's Diploma of Conservation and Ecosystem Management develops the practical skills and knowledge needed for skilled and paraprofessional work in natural resource management. Students can tailor their studies through a wide range of electives, with focus areas including indigenous land management, conservation earthworks, lands, parks and wildlife management, and natural area management. The course also builds understanding of the legal and policy framework for conservation and natural resource management, alongside data collection and report writing skills. Delivery is blended at Barossa Valley (part time) and offered on campus, full time or part time, at Urrbrae, combining classroom learning with online study or in-person teaching depending on location. The course typically takes around 12 months to complete. Entry requires completion of a Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital (LLND) Assessment and a Certificate III or higher in Conservation and Ecosystem Management, Horticulture or Rural Operations. Government-subsidised training places are available, with fees charged per semester on a concession, subsidised or full-fee basis depending on the units enrolled. International students can also study this qualification at Urrbrae, with intakes in January and July. Graduates are prepared for roles such as soil conservation specialist, landcare manager, land management supervisor, indigenous land manager, park ranger, environmental officer in lands, parks and wildlife, or natural resources manager, making the course well suited to students pursuing a career in environmental and land management.
