10917NAT Diploma of Data Science (CRICOS 117541K) produces data scientists and analysts with high-level skills and knowledge to code, analyse and solve complex data-related problems using computing, mathematical and statistical techniques. An individual in this role can analyse or develop software solutions to solve complex data problems, and can use techniques of data collection, exploration and analysis, machine learning, statistics and mathematics in data-related problem solving to generate useful insights.

Beyond the general vocational outcome, Baxter Institute states that graduates of the course will be able to develop and apply knowledge in a broad range of methods based on statistics and computing and use these for analysis and problem solving; identify approaches to solve specific problems using data, making sense out of data and automating the process of decision making; and use appropriate methods, tools and techniques for data collection and analysis.

The qualification is delivered through twelve units of competency. Students build and deploy resources on cloud platforms; gather, analyse and verify data from different source inputs; use unsupervised learning for clustering; create technical documentation; organise and lead agile projects; apply IP, ethics and privacy in ICT environments; and research and apply emerging web technology trends. Five nationally accredited NAT units then cover analysing databases and big data for information retrieval, applying data structures and algorithms to data, applying quantitative techniques for data analysis, and implementing machine learning techniques for regression and for classification.

Baxter delivers the diploma over 52 weeks including holidays, face-to-face, at 72-92 Langford Street, North Melbourne VIC 3051 and at 41-45 Commerce Avenue, Armadale WA. There is no work placement component, and graduates can progress to higher education qualifications not offered at Baxter.
