Yes, you need to complete 280 hours (35 days) in an early childhood education centre that caters for children up to 6 years. Before commencing your work placement you will need a 'Working with Children' check and a current National Criminal Record history check. The college can help you apply for this. SGSCC also offers a simulated learning environment.
No. This is a competency-based course. You will be required to competently complete assessment tasks for all units of learning. Assessments are made up of a range of methods including case studies, demonstration, observations in the workplace, portfolio of evidence, presentation, questions and answers, and research reports.
Students must be working in the industry and have a current CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care, or CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care. Additional requirements include a current National Police Check, completion of an SGSCC English language, literacy and numeracy assessment (ACSF Level 4), access to a computer and internet, a Facebook account, a Unique Student Identifier, and a minimum age of 18 years.
You will need to plan for approximately 10-12 hours a week at home to complete assessment tasks. Classes run on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9am to 4:30pm, and there is no training during school holidays.
This qualification is subsidised by the NSW Government. Students can register to check their Smart and Skilled eligibility and student fee contribution. The course runs over 7 terms and is delivered face to face on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9am to 4:30pm, with a monthly intake available.
