About This Course

The Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care is for those who are interested in working in the early childhood services sector, or who are already working in the field and are responsible for planning, implementing and managing programs in early childhood services. At this level, workers have responsibility for the supervision of staff and volunteers.

Entry is open to individuals who hold a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care (CHC30121/CHC30113), an equivalent Australian diploma or certificate III in Children's Services with at least 12 months of relevant cumulative employment in the last 5 years, or the CHCSS00147 Entry into Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care skill set. International students study on campus at Southbank over an estimated 52 weeks (40 tuition weeks plus up to 12 weeks of breaks), at 20 hours delivery per week, including a minimum of 280 hours of vocational placement with an approved education and care service provider.

Graduates may progress to a Bachelor of Early Childhood Education (Early Years) or Bachelor of Early Childhood Teaching (Birth to Five Years).

General Requirements

Domestic Students

Hold CHC30121 or CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care, OR an Australian diploma/certificate III in Children's Services with at least 12 months of cumulative full-time-equivalent employment in a regulated education and care service within the last 5 years, OR hold CHCSS00147 Entry into Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care
Pre-training review to confirm the appropriate level of Language, Literacy and Numeracy (test result must be within the last 12 months, where supplied)
Basic computer skills
At least 18 years old
A satisfactory National Police Check (NPC), and a Statutory Declaration if the student has resided in another country from age 16 as a permanent resident or citizen
A satisfactory Working with Children Check
Immunisation including full COVID vaccination with a TGA-approved vaccine

International Students

Hold CHC30121 or CHC30113 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care, OR an Australian diploma/certificate III in Children's Services with at least 12 months of cumulative full-time-equivalent employment in a regulated education and care service within the last 5 years, OR hold CHCSS00147 Entry into Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care
A valid visa
Minimum IELTS 6.0 with no individual component score below 5.5, or equivalent
Pre-training review to confirm the appropriate level of Language, Literacy and Numeracy (test result must be within the last 12 months, where supplied)
