Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care

WMIT's Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care (CHC50121) is a nationally recognised AQF Level 5 qualification that prepares graduates for leadership roles in regulated early childhood education and care services across Australia. It reflects the role of educators responsible for designing and implementing curriculum under the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF), within the requirements of the Education and Care Services National Regulations and the National Quality Standards set by ACECQA. The course is delivered face-to-face at WMIT's Melbourne CBD campus and is CRICOS-registered under code 114144C, open to international students on a Student Visa. It is the direct progression from WMIT's own CHC30121 Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care.

Across 15 units of competency (12 core and 3 electives), students build advanced competencies in curriculum design, child development theory, family and community engagement, team leadership and reflective practice. A mandatory 280-hour supervised work placement in a regulated Australian childcare centre is embedded in the programme, with WMIT trainer/assessors conducting formal site visits throughout.

Graduates are prepared for leadership roles including Room Leader, Lead Educator, Educational Leader and Nominated Supervisor, in a childcare sector facing sustained national demand. On completion, students may progress to a Bachelor of Early Childhood Education or an equivalent qualification.
